Joshua Norton Woodcut Prints

Ah, Etsy. I love that I have the ability to not only sell my own handmade wares, but that I can browse other creative minds and find bits of tangible imagination as easily as entering a key word.

Kids, today's word is:

As I was picking through the normal assortment of bland, cutesy, minimalist prints of the elusive Sasquatch and Mothman and assorted fake monster fetuses in jars filled with questionable liquids, I came across this gem of a store: Joshua Norton Woodcut Prints. What initially caught my eye was this gorgeous print of Saint Sasquatch:
Available here.

Doesn't this image speak to you? I don't know what it is telling you, but to me, it says, "Megh. Put me up in your house on the mantle for all to see." And I want to answer, "Yes, Saint Sasquatch. Whatever you say. Please don't maul me."

I am sure it is the admiration for the piece and not just the medication talking.

I don't know Mr. Joshua Norton personally, but I sure wish I did. His Etsy shop is filled with hand carved woodcut prints predominantly featuring Western themes, monsters, Sasquatch(!), and some very interesting abstract art. I'm no art buff, my own sketches are mostly doodles and images pulled out of daydreams and nightmares, and I couldn't give an expert opinion on any particular style; but I like what I see. His lines are clear and clean, with a haze over it, and the bold and vibrant colors stand out on the page, unlike so many other prints I see on Etsy that rely on softness and blurred lines to appeal to those who would want to buy it.

I highly recommend visiting Norton's Etsy shop and taking a look at his unique prints. (Especially the Sasquatch ones!)
Enjoy.
